About Lake’s Leisure

A family business in an industrial heritage setting, where hospitality, warmth and memorable experiences come together.

A remarkable location in De Zeeland

Lake’s Leisure is located in De Zeeland, a striking industrial monument on Markiezaatsweg in Bergen op Zoom.

The history of this site begins with the sugar industry. In 1917, the Zeeland Cooperative Beet Sugar Factory started its beet campaign. The factory section on today’s Markiezaatsweg was built in 1920–1921. After the factory closed in 1929, the large halls were eventually used by the Dutch Ministry of Defence, including for ammunition storage. When Defence left in the 1990s, the building stood empty for a period.

Restoration and redevelopment gave the building a new life. The high halls, brick façades and visible industrial elements still recall its past. That robust character makes De Zeeland so special: spacious and impressive, yet warm, welcoming and inviting at Lake’s Leisure.

Hospitality is in our DNA

Lake’s Leisure is a family business. In 2001, we took over the family company, which operated several petrol stations. There we learned how important personal attention, good service and a welcoming environment are.

In 2015, we opened the bowling centre and Restolounge in De Zeeland. In 2016, we sold our final petrol station and focused entirely on our Bergen op Zoom location. As we added more activities, we changed our name to Lake’s Leisure in January 2022. We have continued to innovate ever since, always with the same aim: to give guests a complete and enjoyable experience together.

Today, families, friends, children, clubs and companies can enjoy activities, food, drinks and complete packages with us, all under one roof.

From an empty factory hall to opening in 2015

Within a few months, an empty industrial hall was transformed into a complete bowling and hospitality venue. Lake’s Leisure opened its doors in October 2015.

From industrial heritage to fun, food & friends

Where the sugar industry and later the Ministry of Defence once shaped the building, today it is all about shared experiences. The industrial scale remains visible; we added colour, light, warmth and atmosphere.
